(.PDF)MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The UMass Lowell women's volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision to Robert Morris (19-25, 19-25, 26-24, 7-25) in the final match of the Duquesne/Robert Morris Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
The River Hawks finished the tournament with a 1-2 record and with the loss the team drops to 1-7 overall on the season.
"This tournament was a good experience for us and an opportunity to learn, while playing quality teams," said Head Coach
Resa Provanzano. "Although we came out a little flat on Friday, we did show glimpses of progress throughout the weekend and it was good to see different players stepping it up at times. We can definitely build on the lessons we learned from these matches."
Freshman outside hitter
Masha Yelsukova (Santa Clara, Calif.) registered a career-high 16 kills in the match to go along with a .303 hitting percentage. Senior setter
Kamiren Humphrey (Tucson, Ariz.) recorded 26 assists, while senior libero
Hannah Rey (San Diego, Calif.) finished the match with 21 digs on defense. Yelsukova was the lone River Hawk player selected to the Duquesne/Robert Morris Invitational All-Tournament Team for her efforts in three matches over the weekend. Senior outside hitter
Ella Merrill (Bermuda Dunes, Calif.) also finished with 13 kills vs. the Colonials, which marked her fourth double-digit kill performance of the season.
The River Hawks posted a team-high 17 kills and hit at a .192 clip in the third frame.
UMass Lowell returns to action on Friday, Sept. 12 against Fairfield University (5 p.m.) in the opening match of the Brown Invitational at the Pizzitola Sports Center in Providence, R.I.
