Full Results

HANOVER, N.H.  –  A very young UMass Lowell women's cross country team turned in a solid performance offering hints of what the fiututre may hold Saturday, on the 6K course at the Dartmouth College Invitational Meet at the Hanover Country Club.

"I'm not worried about results," said Head Coach Gary Gardner.  "We're learning what we have, working on development and trying to piece it all together."

Despite holding out some of the more experienced runners the young River Hawks, competing in the second year of the transition to Division I, turned in a solid showing finishing fifth in a group of six teams.  Dartmouth, the host school, won the event.

Sophomore Jacqui Solimine (Haverhill, Mass.) paced the River Hawk team finishing 12th among scoring runners in her first race of the year.  He time of 22-minutes 36.3-seconds was a personal best.

"She showed maturity and ran with confidence," said Gardner.  "She finished strong passing ten or twelve people in the second half of the race."

Freshman Alli Wood (Chelmsford, Mass.) also turned in a strong showing.  Wood, who lost her high school senior year of cross country competition to injuries, finished 19th with a time of 23:22.80.

"Alli showed great progress from last week," said Gardner.  "She's starting to click.  She looked comfortable, she looked confident."

Sophomore Kelsey O'Driscoll (New Providence, N.J.) was the third UMass Lowell runner across the finish line.  She ran the course in a time of 24:11.40, good enough for 32 place among scoring runners.  Three-tenths of a second later, sophomore Renee Vigneault (Amesbury, Mass.) grabbed 33rd with a time of 24:11.70.  Freshman Kathryn Loughnane (North Attleboro, Mass.) was next.  She claimed 34th finishing the distance in a time of 24:39.30.

Freshman Chelsea Hayes (Martson Mills, Mass.) was the final River Hawk scorer, finishing the run in a time of 28:43.50 to earn 40th position.

UMass Lowell Cross Country returns to action Saturday, September 20th, at the Iona College Brother Doyle Meet of Champions, one of the premier cross country events in the northeast in September, in Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, N.Y.
