EASTON, Penn. –  A goal in the 73rd minute was the difference as UMass Lowell lost a 1-0 nail-biter to Lafayette College, in a non-conference match, Friday evening at Mike Bourger '44 Field at Oaks Stadium in Easton, Penn.

"It's on me tonight," said UMass Lowell Head Coach Joel Bancroft.  "We need to prepare better.  The players, the staff and me; I was not enough tonight."

The loss extended the River Hawks winless streak to four and dropped their record to 2-5-0.  It was their second consecutive loss to a member of the Patriot League.  Lafayette ended its three game losing streak and evened its record at 3-3-0.

"All three phases of our game needed to be better," said Bancroft.  "Defense, transition and the attack all need to be better."

The game was scoreless through the first 45-minutes.  The River Hawks had opportunities, but were unable to finish.  One shot banged off the post.

Lafayette College senior Kelly Boyce broke the stalemate, finding the back of the net from 20-yards out, in the 73rd minute.  The boot, high into the net, eluded the reach of senior goalkeeper Jill Carlson (Lexington, Mass.)  Sophomores Joanna Scotti and Kaelin King were credited with assists.

Shots reflected what was a evenly played contest.  Each team had nine shots, but the Leopards were on target more often, 5-2.  Lafayette had a 6-0 edge in corner kicks.

Carlson made four saves.  Sophomore keeper Danielle Sedillo, protecting the Leopards net, had two.

After three straight on the road, the River Hawks will return to the Cushing Field Complex Wednesday night, September 17th at 7 P.M., when they host Holy Cross.
