River Hawks Fall 16-4 to William and Mary

Williamsburg, Va. – UMass Lowell suffered a 16-4 loss to The College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Va. Friday night at Plumeri Park. .

The River Hawks fell to 8-4 on the season, while the Tribe improved to 15-6 overall.

"We ran into a buzz saw tonight," said head coach Ken Harring. "They are as good of an offensive team as I have seen in a long time."

Freshman Ian Strom (Hopedale, Mass.) went 2-for-3 with two RBI for UMass Lowell. Junior Danny Mendick (Rochester, N.Y.) also had a pair of RBI in a 2-for-5 day from the plate.

Junior Christian Lavoie (Hopkinton, Mass.) started for the River Hawks and lasted just five innings, giving up 14 hits, nine runs, seven earned, while striking out one. Sophomore Jordan Del Sol (Elizabeth, N.J.) couldn't stop the high power Tribe offense, which came into the game averaging 9.2 runs a game. Del Sol pitched 1.1 innings giving up five runs on six hits.

"I thought we swung the bats well but couldn't keep up with theirs tonight," said Harring. "We will bounce back tomorrow"

William and Mary banged out 22 hits including eight doubles and three home runs. Junior Michael Katz led the way going 4-for-5 and hammering two home runs, while driving in five runs.

Tribe starter Jason Inghram improved to 4-0 after striking out nine in seven innings of work. Inghram gave up four runs on nine hits.

Saturday the River Hawks will throw senior Shane Beauchemin who is 2-0 and has a 2.61 ERA. Brown will counter with
freshman Christian Taugner; 0-2 and 1.23 ERA. First pitch set for 1:00 p.m.
