"Bowling for Wishes" Rolls Up Big Time Numbers

River Hawk Student Athletes raise more than $4,000 for the Make A Wish Foundation

LOWELL, Mass. (Feb. 19, 2014) – UMass Lowell student-athletes, coaches, faculty and staff raised more than $4,000, Monday, during the 7th annual "Bowling for Wishes" event at the Brunswick Zone in Lowell, Mass.

"It was a great event," said UMass Lowell Associate Athletic Director for Sports Administration Joan Lehoullier.  "Our student athletes have a chance to relax, have fun and use their competitive energy to do something good for others."

While numbers are not final, the 15 different teams or groups at the event raised $4,081.00.  Additional donations are expected to come in before the total dollars raised is final.

The Field Hockey team topped the fund raising list bringing in $768.00.  It was the second year in a row that Field Hockey won the money raising competition.

The Baseball team won the bowling competition with an average score of 150.4.

The Ice Hockey team grabbed the overall title finishing third in fundraising and second in the bowling competition.

The event was initiated by the Student Athletic Advisory Committee as one of a variety of events they do to raise funds for the Make-A-Wish Foundation every year. The bowling event grew out of discussions over various fundraising methods.  It started, several years ago, as a competition primarily between athletic teams but grew into an inclusive event in which other campus clubs and organizations are invited to participate.
