BOSTON, Mass. (Jan. 24, 2014) – A couple of third place finishes highlighted a solid showing by the UMass Lowell women's track and field team at the John Thomas Terrier Invitational, Friday night, at the Boston university Track and Tennis Center.

The coach noted as well that nearly three quarters of the River Hawk athletes turned in personal bests in the events that attracted colleges and track clubs from across the country.

Senior
Elisabeth Monty (Charlton, Mass.) turned in her best time of the year in the 60 meter hurdles crossing the finish line in 8.65-seconds. It was good for third place in a race won by Racquel Vassell in a time of 8.52-seconds. Connecticut's Chantal Scott was second.

Junior sprinter
Taelour Murphy (Salisbury, Mass.) tied her personal best in the 60-meter dash. Murphy finished third in the finals in a time of 7.63-seconds. She had won her preliminary heat covering the distance one-one hundredth of a second quicker; 7.62. In the finals Murphy finished behind a couple of sprinters from the University of Central Florida. Briana Vaughn won the race, Christal Peterson was second.

Senior thrower
Candace Greene (Annapolis, Md.) finished fourth in the shot put, third among collegiate competitors. Greene put the shot 46-feet 10¼-inches. The event was won by Becky O'Brien who was competing unattached and threw the shot some 56-feet 4½ inches.  The top collegiate toss was 48-feet 4-inches by Ranita Mealer from Morgan State.
