Box Score UMass Lowell women's soccer fell behind early and never bounced back as Dartmouth College defeated the River Hawks, 3-0, Thursday evening, at Burnham Field in Hanover, N. H.
The home team got on the board before the game was a minute old when Lucielle Kozlov headed a cross from Emma Brush into the net and never looked back.
"That's good and bad," said Head Coach
Elie Montiero. "Bad because we were down 1-0, good because we had 89 minutes to go and try to get it right."
UMass Lowell, nine games into its first season of Division I play, is still looking for its first victory. Dartmouth improves to 3-3-1.
It did get better, but not immediately, for the River Hawks who were down 3-0 by the half. It was the second half that provided the coach with some encouragement.
"We were better in the second half," says Monteiro. "We played better, we changed our formation, we defended better and we played with more confidence. It was encouraging to see the way they responded. The challenge is to repeat that."
While playing better defensively the River Hawks were never able to get the offense rolling. Dartmouth outshot UMass Lowell 20-1 overall, 12-1 on target. The River Hawk goalkeeping tandem of juniors
Jill Carlson (Lexington, Mass.) and
Jane Hatzikonstantis (Tewksbury, Mass.) combined for nine saves.
UMass Lowell returns to the Cushing Field Complex Thursday for their America East Conference opener against the University of Vermont.
