Peterson Leads River Hawks with Six Kills, Eddy has 11 Digs

Box Score The hosts treated the guests rather roughly as Bryant defeated UMass Lowell, 3-0, in the opening game of the Bryant University Invitational, a non-conference volleyball tournament, Friday afternoon, at the Chace Athletic Center, in Smithfield, R. I..
 
The loss dropped the UMass Lowell record to 0-9 headed into a pair of Saturday battles.  The River Hawks meet Princeton at 10:00 a.m. and five hours later face St. John's University.
 
When the tournament is done, the River Hawks, in their first season if Division I competition, will have played nine consecutive matches on the road.
 
For Bryant, a former River Hawk rival in the Northeast-10 Conference, the win was their first of the season after suffering 11 losses.  The Bulldogs face Princeton tonight and the meet Stony Brook and St. John's on Saturday.
 
Senior Brooke Peterson (Del Mar, Calif.) lead the River Hawk attack with six kills, junior Anisa Smith (Moraga, Calif.) added four.  Junior setter Kamien Humphrey (Tucson, Ariz.) led the team with seven assists, senior Olivia Parkins (Dracut, Mass.) had six. 
 
On the defensive side of the stat sheet, senior Carolyn Eddy (Dracut, Mass.) had a match best 11 digs. 
 
The Bryant attack received contributions from a variety of sources.  Claire Van Dyk and Mallory Wilczynski each had nine kills, Taylor Onoyan had eight and Sara DePouw added six.  DePouw, Onoyan and Wilczynski each had a hitting percentage of .500 or better.
 
The River Hawks will return home on Friday, September 27th, to host New Hampshire in what will be UMass Lowell's first America East Conference confrontation.
