Jackie Solimine (Haverhill, Mass.) outran the field at the Keene State College Alumni Invitational finishing first in the two-mile event.
UMass Lowell women grabbed three of the top six spots and took second place in the team competition trailing only the host school Keene State College by a single point in a field of six colleges and a Keene State Alumni team.
"We were solid, top to bottom," says head coach
Gary Gardner. "Everybody hit their goals."
Keene State College finished with 36 points, UMass Lowell with 37 (1, 2, 6, 13, 15)
Solimine completed the course in a time of 12-minutes and 12-seconds.
"She did all the work during the summer," says Gardner. "We would have been happy with a top five finish; winning is a nice bonus."
Senior
Gina Butler (Dracut, Mass.) finished second crossing the finish line in a time of 12:18, just six seconds off Solimine's pace.
"That's her fastest time ever on that course," says Gardner. "We're a very young team and (Butler) is capable of stepping up and being a leader."
Keene State alumni runner Meg Hegarty finished third in a time 12:20.
UMass Lowell freshman
Erin Donovan (Lowell, Mass.) finished sixth running the course in a time of 12:29.
Freshman
Jennifer Pisarik (Chelmsford, Mass.) was 13
th in a time of 12:49.
Sophomore
Megan Mahoney (Billerica, Mass.) finished 15
th crossing the finish line at the 13:10 mark.
The River Hawks get their first taste of America East competition Saturday at the America East Pre-Conference Meet in Vestal, N. Y.
