River Hawks Empty in 7-0 Loss to Le Moyne in Season Opener

Ferraro goes 2-2; River Hawks meet No. 3 North Georgia, Shippensburg Sunday

Junior P Sarah Harrison scattered allowed six hits and a walk while striking out four to lead Le Moyne College over UMass Lowell, 7-0, Saturday afternoon in the season opener at the Catawba College Softball Tournament in Salisbury, N.C.

UMass Lowell (0-1) meets North Georgia College & State, ranked No. 4 in the country, Sunday at 1:00; and Shippensburg University at 3:00.

Junior 3B Ali Ferraro (Kingston, N.Y.) led UMass Lowell as she batted 2 for 2 with a walk.

Senior CF Demetria Kermidas batted 4-4 with three runs and one RBI to lead Le Moyne while senior 3B Fran Kiernan and freshman 2B Kristen Trotta each batted 1 for 4 and combined for five RBI.

Le Moyne opened the scoring in the fourth inning when Kermidas led off with a solo shot to centerfield and freshman Allison Reynolds later followed with an RBI single for a 2-0 lead.

The Dolphins added two more in the fifth inning via a two-run single by Trotta. Kiernan capped the scoring with a three-run home run to left field in the seventh inning.

Freshman Marielle Handley (Durham, Conn.) took the loss as she surrendered five hits and two runs (one earned) while striking out four in 4.0 innings.
