Providence Deals UMass Lowell 3-0 Loss

Smith with season-high 12 kills, Ahzi seven; River Hawks at Hartford Sunday

Freshman Elima Ahzi: Seven kills
Box Score

Junior MH Anisa Smith (Moraga, Calif.) had a season-high 12 kills and hit .455 but it was not enough as UMass Lowell suffered a 3-0 loss at Providence College Friday night in an America East Conference volleyball clash at the Mullaney Gymnasium.

Game scores favored Providence 25-17, 25-20 and 25-17.

Smith compiled 12 kills with two errors on 22 attacks and also chipped in four blocks. Freshman MH Elia Ahzi (San Diego, Calif.) added seven kills and two blocks while junior OH Ella Merrill (Bermuda Dunes, Calif.) had six kills and eight digs.

Junior setter Kamiren Humphrey (Tucson, Ariz.) compiled 23 assists in addition to five digs, four kills and three blocks.

"We had some great rallies, some long rallies that we just couldn't put away," said Head Coach Karen McNulty. "I'm not sure the score was indicative of some of the rallies that went on. I thought we blocked very well, especially since we're pretty small against a lot of these teams. I thought Anisa and Elima were great for us."

With the loss UMass Lowell slipped to 0-21 overall and 0-8 in America East entering Sunday's clash at Hartford.

Junior OH Mackenzie Ziegler led the Friars with 13 kills and three digs while hitting .458 (13-2-24). Sophomore MB Lindsay Witt added nine kills while hitting .533 (9-1-15) and freshman OH Kayla Fitzgerald eight kills and six digs. Sophomore setter Jordan Wiesler dished out 35 assists.

Providence improved to 12-15 overall and 4-5 in America East.
