BALTIMORE (Oct. 4, 2013) – Senior OH Ali Goc and junior OH Hannah Schmidt combined for 17 kills and 23 digs as the University of Maryland-Baltimore County defeated UMass Lowell, 3-0, Friday night in an America East Conference volleyball match at the Retrievers Activities Center.
 
With the loss, UMass Lowell slipped to 0-13 overall and 0-2 in America East entering Sunday's clash at Stony Brook (1:00). UMBC improved to 11-6 overall and 2-0 in AE and hosts New Hampshire Sunday at 1:00.
 
Senior OH Brooke Peterson (Del Mar, Calif.) and junior OH Ella Merrill (Bermuda Dunes, Calif.) each had six kills while junior MH Anisa Smith (Moraga, Calif.) chipped in five kills and four blocks. Merrill also had nine digs.
 
Junior setter Kamiren Humphrey (Tucson, Ariz.) dished out 17 assists while senior libero Carolyn Eddy (Dracut, Mass.) led the defense with 12 digs.
 
Goc led the Retrievers with nine kills and 13 digs while Schmidt added eight kills and 10 digs. Krystal Mlemchukwu added seven kills and four blocks while Sherelle Walker chipped in six kills, four blocks and four digs.
 
Senior setter Rebecca Garrigues compiled 29 assists.
