LOWELL (Oct. 27, 2013) – The University of Albany scored in either half to defeat UMass Lowell, 2-0, Sunday afternoon in the America East Conference women's soccer regular season finale at Bob Ford Field.
With the loss, UMass Lowell ends its inaugural Division I season with a 1-16-1 record and a 1-7-0 clip in America East.
Albany caps the regular season at 2-14-1 and 1-6-1 in the Conference and awaits America East Tournament pairings to be announced Monday. The River Hawks will be eligible for the America East Tournament in 2017.
"The positives are that a lot of the younger players got to see what we are trying to be," said Head Coach
Elie Monteiro. "This will provide an impetus toward more urgency and more belief in order to reach the level that we want to reach."
Albany broke a scoreless drought in the 31
st minute when sophomore F Allison Carhart crossed to the far post to freshman F Erin Savoldy, who finished.
The Great Danes doubled their lead in the 48
th minute when a header by freshman B Alexa Schneider was cleared off the line to the top of the six-yard box to freshman B Maggie Couett who rifled home.
UMass Lowell put together several good spells in the second half – in which they outshot Albany 11-6 – to keep junior GK Jackie Ubert on edge, but were unable to capitalize. Within a two-minute window near the 60

Selja Snorradottir (Reykjavik, Iceland) and senior B
Sarah Raye (Salem, N.H.) each had attempts blocked, while Ubert snuffed another shot by Raye and freshman
Taylor Packwood (Somerset, N.J.) fired wide.
UMass Lowell outshot the Great Danes 19-15 overall, including 11-6 in the second half, but Albany had an 8-7 edge on frame. Ubert, who played the final 45 minutes, stopped five shots while Alana Brennan had two saves in the first half.
