River Hawk five separated by 25.21 seconds; America East Championship next Saturday

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (Oct. 25, 2013) – Senior Ben Pare (Methuen, Mass.) and graduate student Drew Butler (The Woodlands, Texas) finished 14^th and 15^th, respectively, to lead the UMass Lowell men's cross country team to fifth place at the Central Connecticut State University Mini Meet Friday afternoon at Stanley Quarter Park.

UMass Lowell compiled 114 points (14, 15, 20, 31, 34) as its scoring runners were only separated by 25.21 seconds. Providence College won the team title with 65 points (3, 7, 8, 23, 24) while the host Blue Devils finished runner-up with 86 points.

Yale (106) placed third and Stony Brook (111) fourth while the University of New Hampshire (145) placed sixth and was followed by Quinnipiac (204), Connecticut (216), Wagner College (237) and Fairfield (269).

The meet drew 100 runners representing 15 Division I colleges.

Pare ran the 5K course in 15 minutes, 24 seconds while Butler was close behind in 15:25. Senior Brian Donovan (Dracut, Mass.) placed 20^th in 15:31 while senior Christian Kusch (Salem, Mass.) placed 31^st in 15:45 and junior Connor Habib (Methuen, Mass.) 34^th in 15:49.

Sophomore James Wigglesworth (Marblehead, Mass.) placed 35^th in 15:50 and sophomore Lucas Parsons (Methuen, Mass.) 38^th in 15:52 to cap UMass Lowell's effort.

Craig Hunt of Central Connecticut won the individual title, posting a time of 14:58 while Darrell Gooding of Fairleigh Dickinson placed second in 15:06.

UMass Lowell gears for the America East Conference Championship next Saturday (hosted by Binghamton University) in Vestal, N.Y.
