River Hawks cap season Nov. 23 at IC4A/ECAC Championship

VESTAL, N.Y. (Nov. 2, 2013) – Senior Omar Abdi (Roxbury, Mass.) placed 45th overall and 40th among scoring runners to lead the UMass Lowell men's cross country team to eighth place at the America East Championship Saturday afternoon at the Binghamton University Nature Preserve.

The River Hawks compiled 224 points (40, 42, 43, 48, 51 – 54, 55) while the University of Maryland-Baltimore County won the team title with 58 points (3, 10, 12, 14, 19 – 27, 28). Binghamton, which hosted the meet, finished runner-up with 65 (5, 9, 13, 17, 21 – 26, 30).

New Hampshire took fourth with 72 points and was followed by Maine (110), Albany (162) and Vermont (200). Hartford took ninth with 25 points.

"We're a little disappointed because we had previously beaten several of the teams that we ran against today earlier this season," said Head Coach Gary Gardner.

Abdi ran the 8K course in 26:25.51 while senior Brian Donovan (Dracut, Mass.) placed 48th overall (42nd among scoring runners) in 26:28.50 and sophomore Padraic Donovan (Lowell, Mass.) 49th/43rd in 26:28.58. Senior Ben Pare (Methuen, Mass.) placed 57th/48th in 26:41.80; and freshman Conor Doyle (Swansea, Mass.) 61st/51st in 26:51.34 to cap the scoring effort.

Sophomore Zachary Ganshirt (Walpole, Mass.) placed 65th in 26:57.64 while sophomore Lucas Parsons (Methuen, Mass.) took 66th in 27:00.87.

Junior John Prizzi of New Hampshire won the individual championship in 24:55.22, edging Maine senior Kelton Cullenberg, the runner-up in 24:57.60.
