
River Hawks Find Success at UMass Dartmouth Invitational

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The UMass Lowell men's cross country team ran in two different races at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational Saturday afternoon, collecting a plethora of top finishes. Â
First was the men's navy 8k race, where 11 River Hawks finished consecutively from second to 12th place out of 185 runners. Junior Devin Moreau (Tynsgboro, Mass.) (25:20.71), sophomore Will Conklin (Danvers, Mass.) (25:20.73), junior Dante Castellano (Nashua, N.H.) (25:20.75) and junior Isaac Henderson (25:20.77) led the way, finishing within 0.06 seconds of each other to claim second through fifth place, respectively. Not far behind them were junior Jack Courtney (25:29.96), Keegan Tierney (East Greenwich, R.I.) (25:30.01), senior Nicholas Marcotte (Hudson, N.H.) (25:30.12), sophomore Will Simard (Francestown, N.H.) (25:30.15), graduate student Ethan Mashtare (St. Albans, Vt.) (25:30.19), junior Jamie Lano (Strafford, N.H.) (25:35.71) and graduate student Nathanael Fondakowski (Pelham, N.H.), who rounded out the large group of River Hawks towards the front of the pack.Â
Four other River Hawks competed in the navy 8k, as sophomore Jackson Beauparlant claimed 15th place with a 26:25.24 mark, before freshman Shane Leslie (Billerica, Mass.) finished in 20th with a time of 26:41.60. Next was senior Seyha Rath (Lowell, Mass.) in 25th place with a 26:50.17 mark, before senior Pedro Mayol (Lincoln, R.I.) rounded out the River Hawks in 38th overall with a time of 27:13.22.Â
Later, in the men's gold 8k, sophomore Chris Guerin (Shrewsbury, Mass.) led the River Hawks with an eighth place performance out of 240 runners, finishing with an impressive time of 24:46.90. Senior Nicolas Uzzo (East Bridgewater, Mass.) also ran well, earning a personal-best time of 25:10.32 for 17th place. Closely following him were freshman Sean Finnegan (Hopkinton, Mass.) and junior Patrick Hall (Billerica, Mass.), who claimed 21st and 25th, respectively, with times of 25:16.15 and 25:23.53.Â
A pair of freshman finished next, as Lucas Gomez (Salem, N.H.) and Benjamin Schildgen (Litchfield, Conn.) finished in 35th and 39th place, respectively, with 25:39.21 and 25:44.98 marks. Senior Dean Allen (Chelmsford, Mass.) (48th, 25:54.38), freshman Luke Zahurak (Walpole, Mass.) (66th, 26:15.91) and freshman Jimmy Kelly (Lowell, Mass.) (76th, 26:22.19) closed out the River Hawk runners for the day.Â
The River Hawks now gear up for the Paul Short Run at Lehigh next Friday, October 2.Â
