UMass Lowell Suffers 4-0 Loss to Binghamton in Home Finale

Senior F Conor O'Brien scored one goal and set up another to lead Binghamton University over UMass Lowell, 4-0, Thursday night in an America East Conference women's soccer match at Cushing Field.
 
UMass Lowell, which had gone 1-0-1 in its last two matches, slipped 1-15-1 in its first Division I season (1-6-0 in America East) entering Sunday's season finale at Albany (1:00).
 
Binghamton snapped a two-game slide with the win and improved to 8-6-2 overall and 3-3-1 in America East. The Bearcats end the regular season Sunday at home against Vermont (1:00).


 
Binghamton opened the scoring in just the third minute when O'Brien fed sophomore M Katie Corcoran, who rifled home from just outside the top of the 18-yard box. The Bearcats doubled their lead in the 33rd minute when freshman B Genevieve Crescenzo threaded a pass to sophomore B Rebecca Raber, who chipped over junior GK Jane Hatzikonstantis (Tewksbury, Mass.).
 
UMass Lowell's best chance came in the 50th minute when freshman M Abbey DeCredico (Wakefield, Mass.) crossed to sophomore B Selja Snorradottir (Reykjavik, Iceland), who headed agonizingly over the bar.
 
O'Brien scored Binghamton's third in the 66th minute when she broke free of the defense on the left side and slotted inside the far post. The Bearcats added a fourth in the 89th minute when senior F Sophie Sylla got behind the defense on the left side and dropped off for freshman F Leighann Bennett, who steered inside the right post.
 
Binghamton outshot UMass Lowell 17-5 overall and 9-0 on target as Hatzikonstantis stopped five shots.
