UMass Lowell Fightback Not Enough in 3-1 Loss to Hartford

Peterson, Ahzi, Humphrey with season-highs; River Hawks host Providence Sunday

LOWELL (Oct. 11, 2013) – Senior OH Brooke Peterson (Del Mar, Calif.) and freshman MH Elima Ahzi (San Diego, Calif.) combined for 18 kills, but it was not enough as UMass Lowell suffered a 3-1 loss to the University of Hartford Friday night in an America East Conference volleyball clash at the Costello Athletic Center.
 
With the loss, UMass Lowell slipped to 0-16 overall and 0-4 in the Conference entering Sunday's home match with Providence College (1:00).
 
Hartford improved to 8-12 overall and 2-2 in the Conference and visits New Hampshire Sunday at 1:00.
 
Game scores favored Hartford 25-12, 25-17, 18-25 and 22-25.
 
Winning 18-16 in the third set, UMass Lowell outscored Hartford 7-2 to force a fourth game. Junior OH Hannah Rey (San Diego, Calif.) led the run with consecutive service aces.
 
In the fourth set, UMass Lowell trailed 24-19 and cut the lead to 24-22 behind a pair of aces by junior setter Kamiren Humphrey (Tucson, Ariz.).
 
Peterson compiled a season-high 10 kills and added 10 digs while Ahzi added a season-high eight kills. Junior MB Anisa Smith (Moraga, Calif.) chipped in seven kills while freshman OH Ana Anadon (Carlsbad, Calif.) had six kills and three digs.
 
Humphrey dished out a season-high 29 assists.
 
Junior OH Sareeta Nethersole led Hartford with 10 kills and seven digs while freshman OH Corinne Horazny had six kills and 14 digs and senior OH Dionna Kirton six kills and 13 digs. Junior setter Jackie Tamburri compiled 32 assists and 12 digs.
