UMass Lowell volleyball restored its record to .500 on the season with a pair of three set victories on Saturday over Goldey-Beacom and Bowie State in Wilmington, DE. Junior middle-hitter Jamie Muntz (West Hartford, Conn.) led the way with a team-best 17 kills on the afternoon.

Match One at Goldey-Beacom

UMass Lowell got off to a hot start in the early match, scoring seven of the game's first nine points, thanks in part to a series of attack, service and ball handling errors by the Lightning. Goldey-Beacom made a charge to try and pull even, but the River Hawks held the edge throughout and walked away with a 25-23 win to set the tone of the match. Muntz landed four kills, including the team's final two of the set, and sophomore Anisa Smith (Moraga, Calif.) matched her with four of her own. Junior setter Olivia Parkins (Dracut, Mass.) dished out nine assists.

The River Hawks ran away with the second set, 25-16, behind six kills from Smith and junior Brooke Peterson (Del Mar, Calif.).

The matched ended with a 25-21 UMass Lowell win in the third, powered by five more kills off the hands of Muntz.
For the match, Smith led all scorers with 13 kills, while adding five digs. Muntz and Peterson each totaled 11 kills as well.

Parkins was exceptionally efficient, dealing 35 assists in the three-set affair and serving three aces.

Match Two vs. Bowie State

UMass Lowell dominated the opening set against Bowie State with a 25-5 victory. Peterson and sophomore Ella Merrill (Bermuda Dunes, Calif.) each tallied four kills, while Parkins dished out 12 assists. The River Hawks compiled a jaw-dropping .700 attack percentage.

The tune didn't change in the second frame as UMass Lowell cruised to another win, 25-9. This time, Merrill tied with Muntz for the lead with three kills each, while junior Sierra Brown (San Diego, Calif.) landed three service aces. The squad's accuracy improved in the middle set, hitting .706. Through two frames, UMass Lowell did not commit an attacking error.

With a wave of momentum on their side, the River Hawks finished off the match with a 25-7 result in the third. Bowie State committed seven attacking errors and landed only one kill in the final frame.
