Volleyball Splits Saturday Double-Header at NE-10/ECC Challenge

UMass Lowell swept by Dowling, knocks off LIU Post in four sets

UMass Lowell volleyball split a pair of matches on Saturday afternoon at the Northeast-10/ECC Challenge in Waltham, MA, falling to Dowling College, 3-0, in the opener before defeating LIU Post 3-1.

Junior Carolyn Eddy (Dracut, Mass.) and sophomore Anisa Smith (Moraga, Calif.) were named to the NE-10/ECC Challenge All-Tournament Team.

The River Hawks (5-5) will stay on the road this week, traveling to Franklin Pierce on Tuesday at 7 PM and Le Moyne on Sunday at 1 PM.

Game One vs. Dowling College

UMass Lowell struggled against the Golden Lions in the opener, scoring 20 or more points in just one of the three sets (16-25, 23-25, 19-25).

Eddy and Jamie Muntz (West Hartford, Conn.) led the offense with eight kills each. Eddy also had a team-high eight digs. Sophomore Brook Peterson (Del Mar, Calif.) also shined with seven kills and seven digs.

Senior Kristina Wiltjer (Temecula, Calif.) and Eddy split time at setter, each dishing out 10 assists.

Dowling was led by Bethany Shepard (Lakewood, Colo.) who had a match-high 12 kills to pair with 10 digs. Setter Kayla Dillman (Rochester, N.Y.) tallied 25 assists and four service aces.

Game Two vs. LIU Post

UMass Lowell's fortunes reversed in the day's second match as it defeated LIU Post in four sets by scores of 25-18, 16-25, 25-20 and 25-21.

Peterson was the River Hawks' top attacker, landing 11 kills and digging nine balls. Eddy had another strong match with five kills, nine assists and 11 digs, while sophomore Ella Merrill (Bermuda Dunes, Calif.) scored seven kills and a team-high 14 digs.

Junior Olivia Parkins (Dracut, Mass.) led the passing game with 15 assists and Wiltjer added 11 of her own.

LIU Post's Heather Adams (Centerville, Ohio) led all scorers with 14 kills, while Harlee Meyers (Kailua, Hawaii) dug a match-high 17 balls.

For the day, Eddy finished with 19 digs, 19 assists and 13 kills to earn her spot on the All-Tournament Team, while Smith had nine kills, eight digs and five blocks.
