Box Score

After winning its last three matches in identical three set sweeps, UMass Lowell volleyball ended up on the wrong end of Saturday's sweep as Bridgeport earned a 3-0 decision in the Costello Gymnasium. Junior Brooke Peterson (Del Mar, Calif.) had a team-best six kills in the loss.

The River Hawks (3-3) fall back to .500 for the season, but eagerly await the start of conference play this week as they host American International on Tuesday at 7 PM. The Purple Knights (5-1) enjoyed their third consecutive win and also enter conference play this week with a match at Dowling on Tuesday night at 7 PM.

UMass Lowell stumbled in the opening set as Bridgeport captured a 25-14 win. Peterson and sophomore Sierra Brown (San Diego, Calif.) each scored two kills, but it wasn't enough to counter the high powered Purple Knight attack. Bridgeport's Ying Shen (Nanjing, China) scored five kills, while Biljana Savic (Novi Sad, Serbia) tallied four kills and four digs.

The second set went in the same direction as the River Hawks lost 18-25. Sophomore Anisa Smith (Moraga, Calif.) tallied three kills, while junior Olivia Parkins (Dracut, Mass.) dished out four assists and sophomore Ella Merrill (Bermuda Dunes, Calif.) had two kills and three digs.

UMass Lowell fell once more in the final frame, 15-25. Junior Carolyn Eddy (Dracut, Mass.), Merrill, Peterson and Smith each landed two kills in a balanced attack, but the team's eight errors doomed their chances.

Bridgeport finished the match with a .382 attack percentage and dominated the net with 11 total blocks. Shen led all scorers with 12 kills and four service aces.

For the River Hawks, Peterson finished with a team-high six kills, while Merrill tallied four kills and six digs. Parkins and Eddy split time at setter with 15 and six assists, respectively.
