UMass Lowell baseball recorded a loss and a tie on Sunday afternoon in a double-header in Syracuse, NY against new Northeast-10 member Le Moyne. After losing game one 4-3 in 13 innings, freshman Jimmy Ricoy (Lowell, Mass.) hit a game-tying ninth inning home run to deadlock game two at 3-3, eventually leading to a tie.

The River Hawks moved to 12-7-1 on the season with Sunday's results. Game two marked the first tie of Ken Harring's 12-year coaching career--which includes four seasons at Saint Anselm. UMass Lowell snapped the Dolphins' 10-game winning streak; Le Moyne now stands at 16-4-1 on the year.

In the early game UMass Lowell started off strong, picking two runs in the first two innings. Senior Matt Jacobs (Hudson, Mass.) was hit by a pitch to start the game and eventually brought home on a double play. In the second inning Ricoy knocked a one-out RBI single to bring home junior Pat Devlin (Tewksbury, Mass.).

The Dolphins countered with a run in the bottom of the second on an errant throw during an infield single.

The River Hawks reestablished the two-run lead in the sixth after Devlin ripped an RBI double down the right field line to plate senior Mark Sanborn (Hopkinton, Mass.) from second. UMass Lowell then added one more run to push the score to 4-1 in the top of the ninth, scraping across a run on a fielding error.

Despite the lead, Le Moyne roared back in the bottom of the ninth as junior Zack Wiley (Toluca Woods, Calif.) clubbed a three-run home run to left field, knocking the game into extra innings.

After a stalemate over the next three innings, the Dolphins loaded the bases in the bottom of the 13th with a trio of singles. With no outs, senior Matt Marra (Brewerton, N.Y.) laced an RBI single up the middle to bring the game to an end.

For the contest Devlin led the charge with a 4-for-6 showing at the plate. He had a pair of doubles, scored two runs and tallied an RBI.

On the mound, sophomore Mike Calzetta (Lawrence, Mass.) threw eight innings and allowed one earned run and four hits. He was relieved by senior Dallas Nunes (Easton, Mass.), who completed four-plus innings, allowing three runs and three walks.

In the late show, Le Moyne came out strong with an RBI single from Ryan Mahoney (Clay, N.Y.), followed by a costly failed pickoff attempt that later scored Mahoney, putting the River Hawks in a 2-0 hole.

UMass Lowell fought back in the third and fifth innings to tie the game at 2-2. Rookie Matthew Sanchez (Sunrise, Fla.) led off the third with a walk, stole second, stole third and came home on a throwing error. Sanchez then hit an RBI double to right field in the fifth to tie the score.

The Dolphins reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI single from Marra.

The River Hawks made a late charge, tying the game in the ninth with a one-out solo home run from Ricoy. After Le Moyne failed to score in the bottom of the ninth, the game was called on account of darkness, resulting in UMass Lowell's first tie of the season.

Ricoy finished the game 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored--he was the only River Hawk with multiple hits.

Sophomore pitcher James Hamilton (Harwich, Mass.) started the game on the mound, completing six innings of work. Hamilton allowed two hits, two earned runs and surrendered six walks while striking out five batters. SeniorBryant Guilmette (Hopkinton, Mass.) worked three innings in relief, allowing no hits and striking out three.

Up next, UMass Lowell will prepare for its 2012 home opener on Wednesday afternoon. The River Hawks host Stonehill College at LeLacheur Park at 3:30 p.m.
