Smith, River Hawks Turn Back Saint Anselm, 3-1

Sophomore MH Anisa Smith (Moraga, Calif.) compiled 13 digs, four digs and four blocks and hit .393 to lead UMass Lowell over Saint Anselm, 3-1, Saturday in a Northeast-10 Conference volleyball clash at Stoutenburgh Gymnasium.
Game scores favored UMass Lowell 23-25, 25-19, 25-23, 25-21.

The win was the second straight for UMass Lowell, which improved to 7-7 overall and 2-3 in the NE-10 entering Tuesday night's home clash against Saint Michael's (7:00).

Saint Anselm slipped to 5-9 overall and 1-3 in the Conference.

Smith had 13 kills with only two errors on 28 attacks. Sophomores Sierra Brown (San Diego, Calif.) and Ella Merrill (Bermuda Dunes) and junior MH Jamie Muntz (West Hartford, Conn.) each had 11 kills while Muntz chipped in three blocks and Merrill 11 digs.

Junior MH Brooke Peterson (Del Mar, Calif.) added 10 kills, eight digs and three service aces. Junior S Olivia Parkins (Dracut, Mass.) dished out 38 assists.

Junior OH Kyla Gustavson led Saint Anselm with 13 kills and 12 digs while sophomore MH Melissa Ouellet added 11 kills and three blocks. Shannon Douglas chipped in 10 kills while sophomore S Natalie Steinwart dished out 41 assists.
