Brown, Merrill Lead River Hawks Over Southern New Hampshire, 3-1

Brown, Merrill combine for 28 kills in first NE-10 win; Saint Anselm next

Sophomore MH Sierra Brown (San Diego, Calif.) registered a match-high 15 kills while sophomore OH Ella Merrill (Bermuda Dunes, Calif.) added 13 as UMass Lowell defeated Southern New Hampshire University, 3-1, Thursday night in a Northeast-10 Conference volleyball clash at the Costello Athletic Center.

Game scores favored UMass Lowell 12-25, 25-23, 25-23, 25-19.

The win stopped a two-match slide for UMass Lowell, which improved to 6-7 overall and 1-3 in the NE-10 entering Saturday's match at Saint Anselm (11:00).

The loss was the second straight for the Penmen, who slipped to 9-6 overall and 1-2 in the Conference.

UMass Lowell hit a combined .263 opposed to SNHU's .170 in large part to Brown, who hit a season-high .464 (15 kills, two errors, 28 attacks).

Merrill hit .375 (13 kills, four errors, 24 attacks) and compiled 12 digs. Freshman MH Anisa Smith (Moraga, Calif.) chipped in 11 kills, three digs and three blocks.

Junior S Olivia Parkins (Dracut, Mass.) compiled 37 assists in addition to 12 digs while junior libero Carolyn Eddy (Dracut, Mass.) also had 12 digs.

Senior OH Erica Solomon led the Penmen with 14 kills and 11 digs while freshman MH Emma Houlihan added 13 kills. Freshman OH Maeghan Higgins chipped in 10 kills and six digs while freshman S Catherine Cotton dished out 38 assists with 12 digs

Sophomore libero Kendra Mikuta compiled a match-high 16 digs.
