UMass Lowell Just Short in 3-2 Loss to Bentley

Muntz, Merrill combine for 24 kills; River Hawks host Adelphi, pace in key weekend

Sophomore OH Ella Merrill (Bermuda Dunes, Calif.) and junior MH Jamie Muntz (West Hartford Conn.) combined for 24 kills but it wasn't enough as UMass Lowell suffered a 3-2 loss to Bentley Tuesday night in a Northeast-10 Conference volleyball match at the Costello Athletic Center.

Game scores favored Bentley 15-25, 25-23, 26-24, 25-14, 15-11.

The loss was the third straight for the River Hawks, who slipped to 8-10 overall and 3-5 in the NE-10 entering this weekend's home games against Adelphi (Friday, 7:00) and Pace (Saturday, 1:00).

Bentley improved to 8-14 overall and 2-5 in the Conference.

UMass Lowell battled back from a 10-1 deficit in the fifth set to cut the deficit to 12-10, but was unable to muster any closer.
Merrill compiled 13 kills and 17 digs while Muntz added 11 kills, six blocks and five digs. Sophomore MH Anisa Smith (San Diego, Calif.) chipped in nine kills and seven blocks while junior S Olivia Parkins (Dracut, Mass.) dished out 36 assists.
Junior libero Carolyn Eddy (Dracut, Mass.) led the defense with a game-high 20 digs.

Sophomore OH Tatiana Froelich led the Falcons with 12 kills, nine digs and five blocks while freshman RSH Jaci Buscher added 11 kills and freshman S Kyana Miller 43 assists, 10 digs and five kills.
