Junior midfielders Kyle Garvan (Braintree, Mass.) and Daniel Galvin (Attleboro, Mass.) each had one goal and one assist as No. 5 UMass Lowell defeated Saint Anselm, 4-1, Saturday afternoon in a Northeast-10 Conference men's soccer clash at Cushing Field.

With the win, the River Hawks improved to 11-1-1 overall and remained unbeaten in the NE-10 play with a 10-0-0 clip entering Wednesday night's key match at No. 12 Southern New Hampshire (7:00).

Saint Anselm slipped to 5-7-1 overall and 5-4-0 in the Conference.

UMass Lowell scored its first two goals off set pieces and the other two in the run of play. In the fourth minute, senior M Bruno Bonicontro (Marlboro, Mass.) sent a corner kick to Garvan, who freed himself of a defender and headed home with emphasis from the center of the area.

Galvin and Garvan each played a role in a goal by Kevin Zapata (East Bridgewater, Mass.) in the 49^th minute. Garvan's trademark throw-in was flicked on by Galvin to Zapata, who fired home from seven yards out.

Galvin gave UMass Lowell a 3-0 cushion in the 63^rd with help from Bonicontro and sophomore F Homero Morais (Somerville, Mass.). Bonicontro took a pass from Morais down the left flank and crossed behind the defense to Galvin, who tapped home uncontested.

Saint Anselm pulled one back in the 79^th when freshman B Ben Mack flicked on a throw-in, which junior M Bruno Dasilva slotted just out of the reach of junior GK Chris Maierle (Wantagh, N.Y.).

Any hope of a Saint Anselm comeback was dashed 14 seconds later as sophomore F Eric DeSantis (Woburn, Mass.) won a ball in the Saint Anselm third, and crossed to junior F Majid Saeed (Woburn, Mass.) who fired home from the top of the area off the bottom of the crossbar.

UMass Lowell outshot Saint Anselm 17-10 overall and 7-5 on frame. Maierle stopped three shots while senior GK Eric Moriarty and junior Mark Kotsopoulos combined for three saves for the Hawks.
