UMass Lowell freshman forward Katelyn Vieira (Warwick, R.I.) added onto her weekly honors by being named River Hawk of the Week, on Tuesday afternoon. On Monday, Vieira was named America East Women’s Soccer Co-Rookie of the Week.
Vieira led the offense for the River Hawks last week, scoring the program’s first hat trick of the Division I era in a 3-1 win against Quinnipiac on Monday, September 28. The win helped snap the squad’s two-game skid and gave them their first home victory of the season.
So far this season, the freshman leads her team in goals (5), points (10), shots (19), and shots on goal (16) and is second on the team in game winners (2). Vieira also currently ranks fifth in the conference for goals, and ninth for points.
Both awards mark firsts of her career for Vieira.
The "River Hawk of the Week" is chosen each week in voting by the UMass Lowell Athletic Communications staff. It honors the top athlete, male or female, based on performance during the previous week of competition.
UMass Lowell returns to action on Thursday, October 8 when the squad travels to New Hampshire for a 7 p.m. contest.
