Junior Rachel McCarthy (Reading, Mass.) was named UMass Lowell's Northwestern Mutual Athlete of the Week Wednesday after leading the field hockey team to wins over Assumption and American International.
Last Thursday UMass Lowell defeated the Greyhounds 3-0 on Cushing Field and followed that up with a 4-0 win over the Yellow Jackets in Springfield, Mass. on Saturday.
McCarthy scored two goals against Assumption. She then tallied another versus American International.
McCarthy has scored 23 goals and six assist for 52 points for the 15-3 River Hawks.
On Tuesday McCarthy was named NE-10 Player of the Year and was named to the All-Conference First Team.
UMass Lowell, which received the No. 3 seed for the Northeast-10 Tournament, hosts No. 6 Stonehill College tonight in the Tournament quarterfinal (7:00) at Cushing Field.
McCarthy is one of three children of Michele and Paul McCarthy of Reading, Mass.
