Junior Melissa Effertz (Oceanside Calif.) was named UMass Lowell's Northwestern Mutual Athlete of the Week Wednesday after leading the field hockey team to wins over Saint Anselm, Southern Connecticut State and Saint Michael's.

Last Wednesday UMass Lowell beat Saint Anselm 6-0, followed that up with a 6-4 win over Southern Connecticut State on Cushing Field and finished the week up in Colchester, VT with a 4-1 victory over Saint Michael's on Tuesday afternoon.

Effertz scored a hat trick against the Hawks and Owls. She followed that up with a goal against the Purple Eagles for a seven goal week. She also had two assists against Southern Connecticut State.  

Effertz has scored 11 goals and 6 assists for 28 points for the 10-1 River Hawks.

Effertz is one of two children of Steve and Tara Effertz of Oceanside, Calif.
