Sophomore forward
Homero Morais (Somerville, Mass.) was named UMass Lowell's Northwestern Mutual Athlete of the Week Wednesday after leading men's soccer to a 2-0-0 record last week. The River Hawks beat New Haven, 3-2, on Friday in New Haven, CT and Bentley, 3-0, on Tuesday at Cushing Field.
On Friday night, Morais scored in the seventh minute giving the River Hawks a 1-0 lead. UMass Lowell would go on to win 3-2 with
Bruno Bonicontro (Marlbroro, Mass.)and
Daniel Galvin (Attleboro, Mass.) scoring as well.
On Tuesday night Morais struck twice. He scored in the 17
th minute from about 30 yards out and scored in the 89
th minute on a two-on-one after receiving a pass from
Majid Saeed (Woburn, Mass.).
UMass Lowell is off to its best start to a season in its modern era (1975 to present) as it improved to 7-0-1 overall and 6-0-0 in the Northeast-10.
Morais is the son of Marivone and Sidney Morais of Somerville, Mass.
