LOWELL, Mass. – With two goals and two assists in a 4-1 victory against Bryant on October 22, junior Alissia de Vries (The Hague, Netherlands) of the UMass Lowell field hockey team has earned River Hawk of the Week honors.
The River Hawks hosted Bryant on Saturday afternoon and scored three unanswered goals in the second half to secure the win. De Vries had a hand in all four UMass Lowell goals in the matchup, assisting the team’s first two, while collecting her first two career goals in the second half.
De Vries picked up her first helper in the third minute, centering the ball to set up a clean shot for the game’s first goal. She added another in the third quarter after firing towards the post for the go-ahead goal on the redirect.
Just over three minutes later, de Vries earned her first career goal on a corner, launching a shot past the opposing keeper from the top of the circle. She followed that up with another tally in the 56th minute, collecting a pass off a corner and sending a ball deep into the cage to clinch the 4-1 victory for the River Hawks.
The "River Hawk of the Week" is chosen in voting by the UMass Lowell Athletic Communications staff. It honors the top athlete, male or female, based on performance during the previous week of competition.
