Following a strong week in the circle, UMass Lowell softball sophomore Kaysee Talcik (Shelton, Conn.) has been tabbed America East Pitcher of the Week, as well as River Hawk of the Week.
Â
Talcik put in 13 innings of work in two complete-game outings last week en route to her second Pitcher of the Week nod this season. She totaled 13 strikeouts, while boasting a 1.62 ERA in a 1-1 showing.
Â
The highlight of the week came in game one of a doubleheader at Hartford on April 2 when she hurled her first career no-hitter to seal a 6-0 shutout victory for the River Hawks. In that contest, which was the team’s 2017 America East opener, she tied a personal best with eight strikeouts. The performance marked Talcik’s second shutout this season and the program’s first no-hitter since 2010.
Â
Earlier in the week on March 30, Talcik got the start at Boston College and was able to keep the Eagles without a baserunner through three complete innings. She finished that outing with four strikeouts.
Â
So far in 2017, Talcik is leading the River Hawks with a 5-7 record, a 3.18 ERA and 43 total strikeouts.
Â
This also marks her second career River Hawk of the Week honor. The "River Hawk of the Week" is chosen in voting by the UMass Lowell Athletic Communications staff. It honors the top athlete, male or female, based on performance during the previous week of competition. Â
