Biography
2016-2017 Season: Zink was one of six River Hawks to play in all 41 games this season, tallying 36 points (10g,26a) as the team’s fourth leading scorer and leading defensive scorer. Was named a AHCA Second-Team All-American and a Second-Team Hockey East All-Star. His 36 points ranked tied for first among Hockey East defensemen and was tied for third nationally among Div. I blueliners. Zink’s 10 goals led Hockey East defensemen and rank tied for third nationally. His 25 assists rank tied for seventh among Div. I defensemen. Zink’s 31 career goals are most by a defenseman in UMass Lowell’s Div. I history, passing Maury Edwards’ record of 28 on Jan. 20th vs. Providence. In the last three seasons, 20 of his 31 goals (64.5%) have either tied the score or given the River Hawks the lead. Zink amassed three straight 10+ goal seasons. Had a point in 28 games this season, which includes seven multiple point efforts this season. Recorded two multi-goal games on Dec. 9th vs. Merrimack and Dec. 31st at Dartmouth. 2015-16 Season: Zink skated in 39 games for the River Hawks in his junior season, notching 24 points (11g,13a), which ranks sixth on the roster, to go along with a +13 plus/minus rating. Zink’s 24 points ranks tied for seventh among Hockey East defensemen and his 11 goals are tied for fourth in nation among blueliners. Was named to the NCAA East Regional All-Tournament Team and to the Hockey East All-Tournament Team. Zink earned Honorable Mention Hockey East All-Star honors. 16 (7g,9a) of his 24 points this season have come away from the Tsongas Center (Road/Neutral). He has points in 17 games this season, which includes six multiple point efforts. Tallied his first career hat trick on February 13th vs. Boston University at the Tsongas Center. Scored two goals twice this season on October 31st at Minnesota-Duluth and November 27th vs. Northeastern, which included the overtime game winner. Scored the shootout clinching goal against Brown on November 28th in the “Friendship Four” Championship Game to help the River Hawks earn the first ever Belpot Trophy. Has an even or plus rating in 33 of 39 games this season. Has tallied nine (5g,4a) of his 22 points on the power play this season. Had a five-game point streak from Dec. 6th to Jan. 15th with six points (1g,5a) in that span. Zink was named Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week on November 30th and February 15th. The River Hawks owned a 12-4-1 record when Zink scored a point.
2014-15 Season: Appeared in 37 games while tallying 26 points (10g,16a) ... Added two assists in a 6-3 win over Quinnipiac on Oct. 17, and a 5-0 win at Northeastern on Nov. 8 ... MVP of the Frozen Holiday Classic in Brideport, Conn. ... Notched two goals, including the game-winner in a 3-1 win over Merrimack on Jan. 3. ... Named Hockey East Player of the Week on Jan. 5 ... Named River Hawk of the Week on Dec. 30... His 26 points was tied for fifth among Hockey East defensemen and his +21 plus/minus rating was sixth best in Hockey East. His 0.70 points per game was 10th best in country among Div. I defensemen.
2013-14 Season: Zink skated in 26 games for the River Hawks in his freshman campaign, recording one assist on Feb. 1st at Merrimack in a 4-0 win for his first collegiate point.
