Biography
CAREER: Appeared in 154 games in five seasons as a River Hawk … Owns the program record for games played on home ice … Amassed 26 goals and 42 assists for 68 career points … Named a Hockey East Distinguished Scholar after posting a 3.0 GPA or better in each semester of his four varsity seasons.
AS A GRADUATE STUDENT (2021-22): Played in all 35 games for the River Hawks this season … Put up seven goals and eight assists for 15 points … Finished the year with a +6 rating … Has a power play goal and a game-winner to his credit … Scored a season-high two points off a pair of goals against Dartmouth (2/5).
AS A SENIOR (2020-21): Skated in 18 games for the River Hawks, netting six points off a pair of goals and four assists…Registered two points on the power play off a goal and an assist this year…Finished his senior campaign with a +3 rating...Named a Hockey East Distinguished Scholar after posting a 3.0 GPA or better in each semester of his four varsity seasons.
AS A JUNIOR (2019-20): Sodergren notched 16 points (8g,8a) in his junior campaign in 31 contests for UMass Lowell. He notched a point in 15 games during the season for the River Hawks, which included tying a career-high with two goals vs. Rensselaer on November 29th. Was named to the Hockey East All-Academic Team for the third straight season.
AS A SOPHOMORE (2018-19): Sodergren has posted a career-high with 21 points (5g,16a) with a team-best +13 rating and 55 shots on goal, playing in all 37 games for the River Hawks. He posted 17 points (3g,14a) with a +14 rating in 24 league games. His 14 assists in Hockey East play ranked tied for 10th among HEA players and his +14 rating was tied for sixth among conference players. Posted a career-high two goals on Jan. 11th at Colgate and a career-high three assists on Nov. 16th at UConn. Has a point in 17 games as a sophomore with three mult-point efforts. UMass Lowell owned a 12-4-1 record when Sodergren scored a point.
AS A FRESHMAN (2017-18): Sodergren amassed 10 points (4g,6a) and a +6 plus/minus in 33 games in his rookie season with all 10 points coming in 22 league contests. Notched points in seven game last year and had three multi-point efforts. Scored his first career goal vs. Northeastern on October 27th and posted a career-high two assists on November 17th vs. UConn.
Previous Team: Sodergren played the last two years for West Kelowna in the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL). He recorded 59 points (24g,35a) during the 2016-17 season in 58 games as an alternate captain and Team MVP. In 2015-16, he amassed 30 points (8g,22a) in 58 contests. In the 2016 playoffs with West Kelowna, he totaled 13 points (6g,7a) in 24 post-season games leading the team to BCHL Championship.
Personal: Son of Sharon and Joe Sodergren... His brother Joe is a 2016 graduate of UMass Lowell... Sodergren likes to hangout with friends and watch TV. Play video games, read books and play Sporcle... His favorite professional sports teams are the Boston teams... His favorite sports moment is winning the BCHL Fred Page Cup, Western Canada Cup, and RBC Cup all in my first year when I was playing in West Kelowna.
Why Sodergren chose UMass Lowell: "It's a perfect balance between academics and athletics and I'll be challenged with playing in the best conference in Hockey East with one of the most prestigious programs in the recent years. Growing up less than 10 minutes from it, I love the campus and the small city it's located in."
