Bangor Daily News: Sarah Wilcox caps brilliant field hockey career with All-American status
AS A SENIOR: Named 2012 Longstreth/NFHCA DII First Team All-American • Named Northeast-10 Conference Defensive Player of the Year • Named Most Valuable Player of NE-10 Conference Tournament• Started all 23 matches • Led the NE-10 in assists with 14, third nationally and scored five goals • Equally impressive was her leadership on a backline that led the NE-10 in fewest goals conceded (21) and goals against average (0.90, second among Division II teams) while compiling 13 shutouts • Named Northeast-10 Conference Defensive Player of the Week three times, 9/5, 9/11 and 9/18.
AS A JUNIOR: Named 2011 Longstreth/NFHCA DII First Team All-American • Named 2011 Synapse Sports' Second Team All-American • Started all 23 matches in 2011 • Tallied five goals and six assists for 16 points • Scored a goal and an assist vs. AIC in the NCAA Division II Field Hockey Tournament First Round (11/5) • Tallied two assists in a 3-1 win over Merrimack in the NCAA Division II Field Hockey Tournament Semifinal (11/11).
AS A SOPHOMORE: Named Northeast-10 Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 25 for helping the River Hawk defensive corps post a pair of shutouts, making a save to help preserve the squad's shutout streak, also holding opponents to just six shots on the week and just nine penalty corner opportunities • Started all 24 games for the River Hawks, finishing the year with two goals and an assist for five points in 2010.
AS A FRESHMAN: Named to the NFHCA All-Academic Squad • Saw action in all but two of the River Hawks 24-game season, making one start • Notched a goal and an assist on the year, scoring her first collegiate tally on Sept. 23 in a 6-1 win over Assumption.
OLD TOWN HIGH SCHOOL: Played for coach Terri Bray at Old Town High School • Earned All-State and was named to the All-Conference First Team • Served as captain of the field hockey team • Also played for the Maine Event club field hockey team under coach Linda Laughlin • Earned All-Conference accolades for basketball and softball at OTHS, as well • Took part in the Honors Diploma Program and earned Highest Honors at OTHS • Was a member of the Pep, Marching, Concert and Symphonnic Bands • Member of the Key Club.
PERSONAL: Oldest of three children of Vicki and Shawn Wilcox of Old Town, Maine • Lists the WNBA's Candace Parker as her favorite sports figure • Majoring in Nursing
