BOSTON – After helping lead her team to a 4-1 victory Friday afternoon, senior Alice Van Hemelen (Tervuren, Belgium) of the UMass Lowell Field Hockey team was named the America East Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the conference on Tuesday afternoon.
Against the Black Bears, Van Hemelen contributed on both ends of the field, scoring a goal in the fourth quarter to seal the victory and keep the River Hawks tied for first place in the standings. Meanwhile on the defensive end, she helped anchor a defensive unit that held Maine to only five shots, with only two on target.
Van Hemelen and the River Hawks are back in action this Thursday, October 29, when they close out the regular season at UAlbany in a battle for the America East Regular Season Championship.
