LOWELL, Mass. – Junior Louis Dufraiche (Pluherlin, France) scored his first career goal in the 90^th minute to help lift the UMass Lowell men's soccer team (4-2-2) to a 2-1 victory over the Manhattan Jaspers (2-3-0) on Friday night.

After the Jaspers scored the game-tying goal in the 87^th minute, the River Hawks had one final attempt to pull out the victory and made sure to capitalize. With the clock winding down and under a minute to go, junior Saihaj Kailay (Belleville, Ontario) sent a corner kick high into the box, setting up Dufraiche, who jumped into the air and capitalized on his height advantage, heading the ball into the back of the net and securing the 2-1 victory for the River Hawks.

"A wild one tonight," said Head Coach Kyle Zenoni. "I took a lot out of today. I know we got the result, but I mean when you think about these four games in 10 days and we went 3-0-1, I couldn't be more proud of the guys. Manhattan came in, and they made it hard for us for sure, they're well coached and well organized. It was tough. But, giving up a goal at the end of the game on an error on our part, and then finding a way to come back and win with a minute to go is pretty special."

Dufraiche, who scored on his only shot attempt of the evening, also added an assist on the first goal of the match to post a team-high three points. Junior Justin Godbout-Garon (Québec City, Canada), scored the team's first goal of the match, while Kailay and junior Sho Kinjo (Nara, Japan) both contributed an assist. In net, junior Moritz Aé (Leipzig, Germany) made five saves in 90 minutes of action.

The Jaspers' offense started strong early, but UMass Lowell was up to the challenge, as Aé made a pair of saves in the opening minutes. Moments later, in the ninth minute, the River Hawks found their first strong scoring opportunity of the night when junior Linus Musielak (Dortmund, Germany) ripped a shot at the net, but a save by the opposing keeper kept UMass Lowell from getting on the board. Despite Manhattan firing off five of the next six shots, the hosts continued to deny opportunities, allowing only one shot on target, which Aé promptly saved to keep the game scoreless.

With time winding down in the first half, the River Hawks increased the temp, maintaining possession while putting pressure on the visitors' defense. In the 40^th minute, it paid off, as Kinjo dished the ball to the other side of the field to his defensive counterpart Dufraiche, who seconds later fired a pass down the right side of the pitch. Connecting with Godbout-Garon near the net, the junior instantly laced a shot past the keeper, putting his squad in front 1-0 heading into halftime.

Coming out of the break, the River Hawks defense continued to put on a showing, holding the opposition to only two shots on goal in the first 35 minutes of the half. Meanwhile, the offense continued to pepper shots at the net to extend the lead. Manhattan held on, though, keeping it a one-goal game heading into the final ten minutes, setting up the thrilling finish.

Next up, the River Hawks kick off America East play next Saturday, September 26, when they visit the UMBC Retrievers. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Retriever Soccer Park in Baltimore, Md.
