River Hawks Take Flight Across Collegiate Summer Baseball Leagues

LOWELL, Mass. – The UMass Lowell baseball program is well represented this summer, with 16 student-athletes competing across six collegiate summer baseball leagues.

"We're looking forward to following the development and success of our players as they head into summer ball," said Head Coach Nick Barese. "Playing over the summer is a critical part to our player and program success, and something we put a lot of pride and importance in."

This summer, the River Hawks are taking the field in a wide range of collegiate leagues, including the Cape Cod Baseball League (Harwich Mariners), Futures Collegiate Baseball League (Westfield Starfires, Worcester Bravehearts, Lowell Spinners), Hudson Valley Collegiate Baseball League (Connecticut Barons), New England Collegiate Baseball League (Sanford Mainers, Valley Blue Sox, Northshore Navigators), New York Collegiate Baseball League (Syracuse Salt Cats), and Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League (Glens Falls Dragons).

Redshirt-sophomore Sean O'Leary (Foxboro, Mass.) is the lone River Hawk joining the Cape Cod Baseball League a part of the Harwich Mariners. This past season, O'Leary led the UMass Lowell baseball team in several statistical categories such as batting average (.308), on-base plus slugging percentage (.901), slugging percentage (.493), runs scored (55), hits (62) and home runs (9). The infielder delivered consistently on defense over the season, collecting 387 putouts and 22 assists while posting a .998 fielding percentage in 50 games. O'Leary also finished the 2026 season ranked second in the America East for runs scored at 55.

Playing in the Futures Collegiate Baseball League, freshman Tyler Dunlea (Attleboro, Mass.) is a member of Westfield Starfires as a right-handed pitcher, sophomore Brayden Cali (Taunton, Mass.) belongs to the Worcester Bravehearts as a utility player, and four River Hawks in freshman Cal Chance (Wolcott, Mass.), sophomore Jake Zawatsky (Billerica, Mass.), freshman Christopher Klueber (Bourne, Mass.) and freshman Seamus Scott (Lowell, Mass.) are part of the Lowell Spinners.

Dunlea saw action in 10 games with one start on the mound in his first collegiate season, recording a 4.96 earned run average across 16.1 innings pitched, while also collecting two wins, a save, and 15 strikeouts. During his second season with the River Hawks, Cali took on multiple roles as a utility player, batting .290 with 31 hits, 16 runs scored, and nine RBI across 39 appearances with 28 starts in the 2026 season. The sophomore also led the team in triples (2) and tied for the team lead in stolen bases (12).

Scott saw time in just two games for UMass Lowell during his freshman season, posting three strikeouts in 4.1 innings pitched, while Zawatsky appeared in eight contests for the River Hawks, tossing 6.1 innings with five strikeouts. Klueber made three starts with 11 total appearances in his freshman season, throwing 19.0 innings with 12 strikeouts. Chance rounds out the River Hawks competing in the Futures Collegiate Baseball League, making an early mark in his collegiate career with a selection to the America East All-Conference Rookie Team as a catcher. He batted .294 with a .358 on-base percentage across 45 starts in his first season, while registering 58 hits, 34 runs, 30 RBI, 10 doubles, and 12 stolen bases.

Freshman Tyler Kisling (New Milford, Conn.) is the only UMass Lowell baseball player competing in the Hudson Valley Collegiate Baseball League, playing outfield for the Connecticut Barons. Kisling saw action in five games with three starts, finishing the season with one hit and one run scored. Freshman Tyler McKillop (Blue Point, N.Y.) is the sole River Hawk in the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League, taking the field as an infielder for the Glens Falls Dragons. Across eight appearances with one start in 2026 for UMass Lowell, the New York native posted a .300 average and .900 OPS, while adding three doubles, four runs scored, and an RBI.

Spending the summer in the New England Collegiate Baseball League, junior Alfred Mucciarone (Franklin, Mass.) heads to the Sanford Mainers as a right-handed pitcher, while sophomores Jake LeFrancois (Worcester, Mass.) and Nolan Geisler (Bayonne, N.J.), along with junior Scott Donahue (Medfield, Mass.), will take the field for the Valley Blue Sox. Freshman Josh Doney (Lynn, Mass.) completes the group, joining the Northshore Navigators as a left-handed pitcher.

Coming off the best season of his collegiate career, Mucciarone was named to both the America East All-Conference Second Team and the AE All-Championship Team. In 2026, the junior logged a 4.46 earned run average across 14 starts, leading the team with 76.2 innings pitched while tossing two complete games, including a shutout, and finishing with three wins and 47 strikeouts. Doney, who returns home to play for the Northshore Navigators after wrapping up his freshman year at UMass Lowell, went to work in 18 games with two starts, pitching 27.1 innings while recording a 6.59 earned run average, a save, and 15 strikeouts.

LeFrancois concluded his second season as a dependable right-handed presence out of the bullpen for UMass Lowell. The sophomore made 22 appearances, posting a 2.58 earned run average over 38.1 innings pitched while collecting three wins, three saves, and 24 strikeouts. Geisler also took a step forward in his second season as a River Hawk, earning America East Pitcher of the Week honors once during the 2026 season. The New Jersey native appeared in 21 games with four starts, pitching 53.0 innings and recording a 6.28 earned run average, while adding a save, 35 strikeouts, and a team-high four wins. Donahue wrapped up his junior season at UMass Lowell, appearing in 39 games with 32 starts behind the plate. The Massachusetts native hit .252 at the plate in 2026, totaling 30 hits, 22 runs scored, 22 RBI, and eight doubles.

The last two River Hawks are both playing for the Syracuse Salt Cats in the New York Collegiate Baseball League, with freshmen Hector Gonzalez (Liverpool, N.Y.) and Colin Ducie (Plymouth, Mass.). Ducie saw action in 11 contests with one start, as the right-handed pitcher owned a 7.50 earned run average, pitching 18.0 innings with 14 strikeouts, a win and a save. Gonzalez made 15 appearances with one start as an outfielder, recording a hit and a stolen base his first collegiate season.
