The UMass Lowell men's track and field team traveled to the Princeton Elite on Saturday afternoon, with a small group of men's and women's athletes heading to the Battle Road Track Club Twilight #2 Meet at MIT.
"There were great efforts all around today," said Head Coach
Gary Gardner. "I am looking forward to NCAAs in a few weeks."
At Princeton, the men's 4x100m relay team highlighted the day with a school record and third-place finish. The squad of sophomore
Brandon Riley (Weymouth, Mass.), sophomore
Evan Imasogie (Lowell, Mass.), graduate student
Aras Kaya (Winchester, Mass.) and sophomore
Daniel Kennedy (Tolland, Conn.) earned themselves a time of 40.92. Kaya went on to compete in the 100m dash prelim and collect a personal-record time of 10.77, while Imasogie (10.78) and
Daniel Kennedy (10.80) finished just behind him.
"The 4x100m continued a great spring with yet another school record. Those guys have led a really talented group all year and it is great to see them rewarded," said Gardner.
In the 3,000m steeplechase, graduate student Joseph Young (Dorchester, Mass.) shined with a 10
th-place performance and season-best time of 9:07.78. Â
Next, in the 5,000m run, senior Jan Wouter Van Den Akker (Groningen, Netherlands) led the team in seventh place, earning a 14:09.20 mark. Freshman
Devin Moreau (Tyngsboro, Mass.) was next, crossing in 14:49.70 for 17
th, before graduate student
Hunter Marion (Templeton, Mass.) finished just behind him in 18
th place with a time of 14:50.44.
Junior
Sean Kennedy-Wonneberger (East Haddam, Conn.) was the first River Hawk to cross the finish line in the 1,500m run, claiming 16
th place and a season-best 3:49.41 mark, before junior
Hatim Boukhtam (Abington, Mass.) took home 17
th with a time of 3:49.51. Senior
Andrew Benassi (Reading, Mass.) finished in 19
th place (3:50.39) and freshman
Isaac Henderson (4:01.25) and graduate student
Paul Neilan (4:09.46) finished back-to-back in 23
rd and 24
th.
Two River Hawks competed in the men's 800m, and it was senior
Graham Stedfast (Rowley, Mass.) that led the way with a strong performance in 18
th place with a 1:51.99 mark. Freshman
Gabriel Sisk (West Hartford, Conn.) followed in 26
th place with a time of 1:54.02.
"Graham and Sean (Kennedy-Wonneberger) gave two big efforts this week," added Gardner.
Graduate student
James Kotowski (Stoneham, Mass.) stood out in the field events, winning the javelin with a 70.91m mark to continue his productive season and career.
Graduate student
Brandon Williams (Severn, Md.) was the lone River Hawk to compete in the triple jump, claiming ninth place with a 13.76m leap.
At MIT, freshman
Jamie Lano (Strafford, N.H.) finished in sixth place with a collegiate personal-best time of 1:54.34. For the women, junior
Kylie Marion (Baldwinville, Mass.) was the lone River Hawk, finishing in eighth place with a time of 2:26.51.
In the men's 10,000m, sophomore
Keegan Tierney (East Greenwich, R.I.) finished in ninth place with a 32:06.09 mark to conclude the day.
