11/19/2025 11:46:00 AM

LOWELL, Mass. – UMass Lowell Athletic Sports Performance Graduate Fellow Anneka Olsen has been selected to represent UMass Lowell at the 2026 NCAA Emerging Leaders Seminar on January 28-30, 2026, in Indianapolis, Ind.

"I am incredibly proud of Anneka for her initiative and achievement in earning this prestigious opportunity," said Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Performance Marcus Williams. "Her selection to the NCAA Emerging Leaders Seminar is a testament to her commitment, professionalism, and passion for collegiate athletics. This experience will allow her to expand her knowledge, strengthen her leadership skills, and build meaningful connections that will undoubtedly contribute to her continued growth and success in the field."

This event will help provide leadership, educational, and transitional programming for current graduate assistants and interns from NCAA member schools, conference offices and affiliate organizations. Over the three days, Anneka will look to educate, develop and connect with those attending, while also learning the skills necessary to accelerate her career progression in college sports.

"With the theme of the event being 'Take Up Space' I believe that it is one of the most important things an intern or graduate student can learn as they step into a new role where they may be dealing with imposter syndrome or trying to figure out how they fit into a new environment," said Olsen. "This seminar is about building leadership skills and confidence in a new generation of leaders in college athletics, which I'm proud to be a part of."

Those participating will leave with valuable insight into college athletics and will look to elevate their individual and group critical thinking skills through the program case study and other learning opportunities. Breakout engagements and panels will help Olsen explore potential career avenues along with building valuable connections within her area of interest. Other professional development topics include mastering difficult conversations, inclusive leadership, navigating the job search and managing others.

"This seminar will be a great opportunity for me to gain a better understanding of the important roles that every department within athletics plays in helping a facility thrive," added Olsen. "I'm looking forward to making connections and getting to know people across the country who all have different experiences and knowledge. Secondly, I'm looking forward to exploring what it means for me to 'Take Up Space' by stepping out of my comfort zone, improving communication skills, and learning to lead confidently."
