LOWELL, Mass. – UMass Lowell Associate Athletic Director for Communications & Creative Content Ashley Robbins has announced three recent promotions within her staff.

Grant Weiller has been named the new Director of Multimedia & Production for River Hawk Athletics, while Joseph Cho has been promoted to Assistant Director of Multimedia & Production and Tim O'Brien has been promoted to Assistant Director of Athletic Communications.

"Grant, Joe and Tim have all gone above and beyond in helping to enhance our brand and content during their time with UMass Lowell Athletics so far," said Robbins. "I'm thrilled to be able to elevate all three of these individuals and to see not only how they continue to help develop our department, but how they each develop professionally in their new roles."

Weiller served as the assistant director of multimedia and production for nearly three years before his promotion, working as a director and producer for live home athletic events at UMass Lowell. His responsibilities have also included developing creative brand content for social media, such as features, highlights and hype videos. Weiller has also traveled with various River Hawk teams to produce content while on the road, in addition to developing videos for athletic advancement purposes to help elevate the UMass Lowell Athletics brand.

Prior to UMass Lowell, Weiller gained experience at NBC10 WJAR, ABC6 WLNE and CitrusTV. He also served as a digital media intern at the West Coast Conference, creating hype videos and producing content for web and social media platforms.

Weiller graduated with his master's degree in television, radio and film from Syracuse University in 2021 after receiving his bachelor's degree in American studies from Providence College in 2020.

"I'm excited to continue UMass Lowell's athletic growth and presence across the digital landscape through visual media," said Weiller. "I'm grateful for this opportunity and want to thank Athletic Director Lynn Coutts, Ashley Robbins, Eric Allen and the rest of the external staff for their unwavering support. I look forward to leading our video team."

Cho has served as a multimedia assistant at UMass Lowell for one year ahead of his promotion, editing video content for the department including hype videos, social media reels and highlights. Cho also helps broadcast all home games on ESPN+ and Americaeast.tv, donning a plethora of roles, including director, technical director and camera operator among others. Cho has captured original footage during games, both at home and on the road to create exciting video content for all River Hawk Athletics platforms.

Cho, a 2023 graduate of Emerson College, garnered experience in the field at his alma mater as a technical executive producer for Emerson Independent Video. He also spent time with the Nashua Silver Knights as a broadcast producer and with Jam in the Van, a Los Angeles media company.

"I'm honored and incredibly grateful for the opportunity to take on the role of assistant director of multimedia and production at UMass Lowell," said Cho. "I'm excited to continue elevating our programs through creative and innovative content, while helping to showcase the hard work and dedication of our student-athletes. I want to thank Ashley Robbins, Eric Allen, Grant Weiller, and the rest of our external staff for trusting me with this new position."

O'Brien served as an athletic communications assistant at UMass Lowell for two years prior to his promotion, working as the primary communications contact for multiple sports, including the River Hawk ice hockey and men's and women's cross country/track & field programs. In that role, he managed public and media relations services for his teams, in addition to their social media accounts and websites, while also overseeing official statistics and recordkeeping for his programs. He has also aided in the publicity of seven America East Championship winning teams during his tenure so far.

Before UMass Lowell, O'Brien worked on the sports information staff at Tufts University where he assisted with game day operations for nationally-ranked NCAA Division III teams. After graduating from UMass Lowell in 2019, he interned with the Massachusetts Pirates and Futures Collegiate Baseball League in various written content roles.

"I am super excited to continue working with the athletic communications team here at UMass Lowell," commented O'Brien. "As an alumnus of the university, I feel grateful to be a part of the growth and success of the athletic department and I cannot wait to see where the future takes us. I want to thank Associate Athletic Director for Communications & Creative Content, Ashley Robbins, for this amazing opportunity, as well as the rest of the communications staff for their constant support and being a joy to work with. Go River Hawks!"
