LOWELL, Mass. – Two members of the UMass Lowell Athletic Healthcare staff have recently been promoted, as announced by the department of athletics.

Lainie Williams has been named Associate Athletic Director for Sports Medicine and Performance. She first joined the River Hawk athletic training staff in November 2016 and was named Assistant Athletic Director in August 2021. In addition to serving as the department administrator, she is also a certified athletic trainer for the field hockey and track and field programs.

"Thank you to Peter Casey, Sandra Roecker, Christina Stone and the HR team at UMass Lowell for the opportunity to continue to be a leader within our athletic department," said Williams. "Also, thank you to the Athletic Healthcare staff members, who work tirelessly and make work enjoyable, even on the toughest days. I'm excited to continue to watch UMass Lowell Athletics succeed."

In her role, Williams oversees seven other certified athletic trainers, an athletics mental health counselor and dietitian. Since joining the River Hawk staff, she has spearheaded the department's mental health initiatives as a key member of the Mental Health Interdisciplinary Team and has continued to foster the growth of the holistic approach to student-athlete healthcare.

Additionally, Williams is a member of the America East Health, Safety & Performance Committee and the Student-Athlete Wellness Advancement Team, and is the department's liaison to Shields MRI, the Wellness Center and the Female Athlete Clinic.

Before joining the River Hawk athletic staff, Williams served as an assistant athletic trainer at Oakland University from 2009-2011 and an associate athletic trainer at the University of Detroit Mercy from 2011-2016.

Casey Lane has been named Senior Associate Athletic Trainer. In her eighth year at UMass Lowell, she serves as a certified athletic trainer for the men's lacrosse and track and field programs.

"Casey is an integral part of our Athletic Healthcare team and this promotion is well deserved," commented Williams. "Seeing Casey grow professionally and personally has been a joy to watch."

"I want to thank Lainie Williams, Peter Casey, Sandra Roecker and Christina Stone for giving me the opportunity to continue to grow and lead in our Athletic Healthcare department," said Lane. "Thank you to the entire Athletic Healthcare staff for being a joy to work with day in and day out. I am excited to see where the next phase of UMass Lowell Athletics takes us."

Off the field, Lane's responsibilities include working as a secondary insurance coordinator and overseeing scheduling for the department. She is also a member of the UMass Lowell Behavioral Intervention Team (STARS) and is the campus Emergency Services liaison.

In addition to her role at UMass Lowell, Lane has served as an Assistant Athletic Trainer with the USA Lacrosse Women's Senior National Team since 2018. As an alumnus of Merrimack College, she is also an adjunct faculty member and a preceptor for upper-level clinical rotations in the Masters of Athletic Training program there.
