LOWELL, Mass.—Sophomore Riley Lawhorn (Amherst, N.H.) and junior Justin Longo (Kingston, N.Y.) put up career-high numbers as the UMass Lowell men's lacrosse team (0-8, 0-3 America East) dropped a 21-10 decision to Binghamton (7-2, 3-0 AE) on Saturday afternoon at Cushing Field.

Lawhorn logged four goals and an assist to lead the River Hawks with five points against the Bearcats. On top of recording his second hat trick of the season, Lawhorn set new career highs in goals and points in a game. Longo finished the tilt with a hat trick of his own, marking the first one of his career as well as a single-game career high for the attacker. Junior Jake Davis (Franklin, Mass.) added a pair of goals to UMass Lowell's total to end his day with two points, while graduate student Sean Parker (Flemington, N.J.) ripped twine once to extend his point streak to three-consecutive games.

"Binghamton is a really good team. They're 7-2 for a reason. Coach does a tremendous job. They're really good at the faceoff X, and they had some really nice play in goal. Their knowns kind of got us today. They've got some really good players," remarked Head Coach Drew Kelleher after the contest.

Longo added to his stellar afternoon with a team-best three caused turnovers alongside freshman Owen Wills (Kingston, Ontario) to mark career-highs for both. Additionally, Wills collected a team-high five groundballs. Freshman goalie Luke Renaud (Skaneateles, N.Y.) stopped seven shots in his 37 minutes of action.

The River Hawks went to work in the opening five minutes, keeping Binghamton off the mark with solid zone defense. The Bearcats picked up the pace, however, controlling possession for the remainder of the quarter to run out to a 7-0 lead.

Binghamton tacked on another four to extend their scoring run to 11-straight tallies. Lawhorn snapped the drought with 11:01 left in the half, ripping in his first of the afternoon to stifle momentum. The Bearcats responded with another strike, but a three-goal run by Lawhorn sparked the offense to cap the half at a 12-4 disadvantage.

A high-scoring third quarter kept both sides busy. Binghamton earned the first goal of the quarter, but the River Hawks retaliated with back-to-back shots from Longo and Davis to bring the team within seven. The Bearcats surged ahead with a six-goal burst as the quarter ticked on. With 2:32 left on the clock, Davis snagged a feed from freshman Devin German (Acton, Mass.) to shift momentum in favor of the home team heading into the final frame.

UMass Lowell ramped up the intensity offensively in the fourth, outscoring the Bearcats 3-2 in the final 15. The late scoring run, however, was not enough as the River Hawks fell, 21-10, to Binghamton.

Up next, the River Hawks travel to Baltimore, Md., on Saturday, April 8, to pay a visit to the UMBC Retrievers. Faceoff is slated for noon.
