LOWELL, Mass. - Two River Hawk student-athletes were honored with 2022 Chancellor's Awards during a Commencement Eve celebration last Friday. The Chancellor's Medals are the University's highest honors bestowed upon graduating seniors.

Lindsey Kilpatrick (Manlius, N.Y.) of the UMass Lowell field hockey team received the Chancellor's Medal for Student Service, which is awarded to graduating seniors who have made outstanding contributions to the university. Additionally, Sam Knoblauch (Rochester, Mich.) of the hockey team was honored with the Chancellor's Scholar-Athlete Award for having the highest GPA over four years among graduating student-athletes.

Kilpatrick, a team captain in 2022, led by example during her entire collegiate tenure. She aimed to serve, not just her team, but the entire student-athlete population. As a campus ambassador for Morgan's Message, she spearheaded the creation of the UMass Lowell Chapter of the nonprofit organization that strives to eliminate the stigma surrounding mental health within the student-athlete community and equalize the treatment of physical and mental health in athletics. In just one year, she arranged several dedication games across multiple sports and led fundraising efforts for the important cause, in addition to furthering the conversation among her peers. A mathematics major from the Kennedy College of Sciences, she also authored a letter to the NCAA Board of Directors to champion the expansion of mental health resources on campuses across the country.

Knoblauch is a graduate of the Manning School of Business. During his tenure as a River Hawk, the forward was a three-time Hockey East All-Academic Team selection after posting a 3.0 GPA or better. As a sophomore, Knoblauch was named a Hockey East Top Scholar-Athlete and tabbed to the Hockey East All-Academic All-Star Team after posting a perfect 4.0 GPA for the season.
