LOWELL, Mass. – The UMass Lowell Athletics Department raised over $100,000 during the university's fifth annual Days of Giving on April 13-14. The incredible outpouring of support from River Hawk Nation during the 48-hour event set a new record for funds raised by the department.
Â
"The athletics department staff, coaches and student-athletes take great pride in the Days of Giving Challenge and this year was no different," said Eric Allen, Senior Associate Athletic Director for Corporate Partnerships and Development. "To have almost 1,000 donors in a 48-hour period was a remarkable achievement by our entire department and donor base. It shows how much support we have for our athletic programs. We all take great pride in representing River Hawk Nation where ever we go and it is humbling to know we have the support of so many wonderful alumni, family and friends."
Â
Athletics once again led every other area of campus with over 900 Days of Giving donors. In a challenge among the River Hawk teams, cross country/track & field led the way with 220 donors and over $17,000 in gifts. Softball, field hockey, women's lacrosse and baseball rounded out the top five finishers by donor count. Â
Â
Buy-in came from both the inside and out, as the student-athletes were also challenged to give back to their own programs. Ten teams surpassed 50% student-athlete participation, while eight of those achieved the full 100% team participation mark for donations, unlocking an extra $1,000 in challenge funds for their program. Â
Â
Days of Giving donors were able to support the program of their choice, as well as continue providing resources to further River Hawk academic resources, leadership programming, mental wellness and nutritional services that are essential for a thriving and winning athletics program.
