LOWELL, Mass.—UMass Lowell hockey goaltender Owen Savory (Cambridge, Ontario) signed an amateur tryout (ATO) contract with the Laval Rocket of the American Hockey League (AHL) this week, as announced by the club.

"We are excited for Owen to begin his professional career. In his two years at Lowell, Owen displayed an intense competitive spirit. He elevated our team with tremendous leadership and consistent timely performances," remarked Head Coach Norm Bazin. "His All-League recognition was well deserved. Owen is a tremendous teammate that others want to play hard for."

A mainstay between the pipes, Savory's backstopping led the River Hawks to an incredibly prolific season, culminating in the program's 14th NCAA tournament appearance. The Ontario native registered a career year with a 20-7-2 record and five shutouts, which earned him back-to-back Stop It Goaltender of the Month nods as well as Hockey East Second Team All-Star recognition.

In addition to finishing amongst the nation's top 10 in both save percentage and goals against average, Savory was also named a Hobey Baker Memorial Award nominee and a semifinalist for the Mike Richter Award, given annually to the nation's top goaltender.

A student in the Manning School of Business, Savory finished his two seasons as a River Hawk with an overall record of 24-10-3 in 37 games. Savory Inks ATO with Laval Rocket
