River Hawks Host Stony Brook Wednesday

LOWELL, Mass. – The UMass Lowell women's basketball (7-10, 4-4 AE) returns to action to host Stony Brook (19-2, 10-1 AE) on Wednesday night. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at the Costello Athletic Center.
 
LOOKING AT UMASS LOWELL
The River Hawks enter Wednesday's contest after snapping a three-game losing skid with a 64-57 win over Hartford on February 7. Senior Kharis Idom (Orlando, Fla.) scored a season-high 20 points, shooting 6-9 from behind the arc. Junior Kaylen Banwareesingh (Bronx, N.Y.) also had a season-high 17 points and added a team-high seven rebounds. Monday's win was a fifth straight win over Hartford dating back to January 8, 2020.
 
SCOUTING THE SEAWOLVES
Stony Brook comes to Lowell on a ten-game winning streak. Last time out, the Seawolves knocked off NJIT 76-38 on February 5. Five players are averaging double-digit points this season. Gigi Gonzalez leads the team with 81 assists and 38 steals on the year. The Seawolves' only conference loss this season came against NJIT on December 30.
 
A WIN WOULD
A win would be a second consecutive win for the River Hawks. A win would also be the first win over the Seawolves since December 27, 2020, a 63-60 victory for UMass Lowell.
 
A DIME A DOZEN
Kharis Idom, sophomore Janai Edmonds (Worcester, Mass.), and sophomore Leilani Rodriguez (Worcester, Mass.) lead the team with double-digit assists each through fifteen games this season. Idom has tallied 32 dimes, while Edmonds has 27 and Rodriguez has recorded 20. Juniors Shamyjha Price (Pittsburgh, Penn.) and Denise Solis (Windsor, Conn.), and sophomore Baylee Teal (Penfield, N.Y.) have each dished out double-digit dimes this season, as well.
 
LEADING THE FLOCK
Kharis Idom is averaging a team-high 9.9 points per game, picking up a team-best 32 assists, and a team-high 28 threes. Denise Solis averages 9.3 points per game and shooting a team-high 56% this season.  Shamyjha Price (23), Idom (18), Ivory Finley (16), and Jaini Edmonds (15) have tallied double-digit steals this season. Nine River Hawks have tallied at least 20 rebounds this season, and eleven players have tallied double-digit boards through fourteen games this season. Edmonds and Leilani Rodriguez have dished out 27 and 20 dimes, respectively.
 
 
THREES COMPANY
The River Hawks scored a season-high 11 three pointers against UMBC, shooting 11-18 for 61% from beyond the arc. It is the most three pointers scored in a single game by UMass Lowell since the team hit 10 against UMBC on February 18, 2017. The team hit 11 threes for the second time this season against Hartford on February 7, shooting 11-21 from distance.
 
BOARDS GALORE
The River Hawks have tallied a total of 540 rebounds this season. The team averages 31.8 rebounds per game with the sixth best rebounding margin in the league.
 
FIELD GOAL GETTER
With 61 made field goals on 110 attempts, Denise Solis leads the team in field goal percentage, shooting 55.5% on the year.
 
FIVE-FINGER DISCOUNT
The River Hawks picked up a season-high 11 steals in the victory over Bryant on November 13. Seven River Hawks came away with at least one steal in the win.
 
BEYOND THE ARC
As a unit, the River Hawks have hit 94 threes through seventeen games, shooting 35.5% from behind the arc. Kharis Idom leads the team with 28 made 3FGís. Shamyjha Price and Kaylen Banwareesingh have each knocked down 13, while Jaini Edmonds has hit 12.
