River Hawks Host Maine Wednesday

LOWELL, Mass. – The UMass Lowell women's basketball team (6-8, 3-2 AE) returns home to host the Maine Black Bears (8-10, 5-3 AE) on Wednesday morning. Tip-off is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. at the Costello Athletic Center.
 
LOOKING AT UMASS LOWELL
The River Hawks head to New Hampshire after falling to UAlbany 56-44 on the road on January 26. As a team, UMass Lowell shot 46% from the field and 45% from three. Junior Kaylen Banwareesingh (Bronx, N.Y.) led the team with 11 points, shooting 3-3 from the field. Junior Denise Solis (Windsor, Conn.) and senior Kharis Idom (Orlando, Fla.) each added 10 points. The River Hawks hold a 3-2 record in America East play this season. 
 
SCOUTING THE BLACK BEARS
Maine comes to Lowell after knocking off Vermont 58-37 on January 30. The Black Bears are 5-3 in conference play this season. Anne Simon leads the team averaging 16.6 points per game, the best in the league. Maeve Carroll averages a team-best 7.9 rebounds on the year. Alba Orois leads the conference with 100 assists, averaging 5.6 per game, this season.
 
A WIN WOULD
A win would complete the season sweep of Maine. A win would also be a fourth conference win of the season for the River Hawks.
 
A DIME A DOZEN
Kharis Idom, sophomore Janai Edmonds (Worcester, Mass.), and sophomore Leilani Rodriguez (Worcester, Mass.) lead the team with double-digit assists each through thirteen games this season. Idom has tallied 29 dimes, while Edmonds has 22 and Rodriguez has recorded 20. Junior Shamyjha Price (Pittsburgh, Penn.) and Denise Solis have each dished out 14 dimes. Sophomore Baylee Teal (Penfield, N.Y.)  has recorded 11 assists this season, as well.
 
LEADING THE FLOCK
Solis is averaging a team-high 9.9 points per game, picking up a team-best 67 boards, and a team-high nine blocks. Kharis Idom averages 8.4 points per game and made a team-high 16 three-pointers this season.  Shamyjha Price (22), Idom (16), Ivory Finley (16), and Edmonds (11) have tallied double-digit steals this season. Nine River Hawks have tallied at least 20 rebounds this season, and eleven players have tallied double-digit boards through fourteen games this season. Idom also leads the team with 29 assists on the season, with Edmonds and Rodriguez dishing out 22 and 20 dimes, respectively.
 
FREE THROW SUCCESS
The River Hawks have had plenty of success from the free throw line to start the 2021-22 season, going 127-190 through fourteen games. UMass Lowell shot a season-high 7-8 from the stripe against Michigan on November 16 and went 15-19 on November 13 against Bryant and November 24 against CCSU.
 
 
THREES COMPANY
The River Hawks scored a season-high 11 three pointers against UMBC, shooting 11-18 for 61% from beyond the arc. It is the most three pointers scored in a single game by UMass Lowell since the team hit 10 against UMBC on February 18, 2017.
 
BOARDS GALORE
The River Hawks have tallied a total of 466 rebounds this season. The team averages 33.3 rebounds per game with the sixth best rebounding margin in the league.
 
FIELD GOAL GETTER
With 53 made field goals on 93 attempts, Denise Solis leads the team in field goal percentage, shooting 57% on the year, best in the America East Conference.
 
FRESHMAN IMPACT
Ivory Finley has had a big impact for the River Hawks in her rookie campaign. The freshman has scored 97 points in thirteen games and five starts this season. She has also tallied 52 rebounds and 16 steals.
