VOTE FOR SAVORY
Â
LOWELL, Mass.—Senior
Owen Savory (Cambridge, Ontario) of the No. 12-ranked UMass Lowell hockey team has been nominated for the 2022 Hobey Baker Memorial Award, as announced Wednesday afternoon.
Â
Given annually to the nation's top Division I hockey player, the first phase of fan voting kicks off today and runs through March 6. Fans can cast their votes once a day at this
link.
Â
Savory's presence between the pipes for the River Hawks this season has guided the storied program to an 11-3-3 (8-2-1 Hockey East) mark to close out the first half. A consistent statistical leader in Hockey East, Savory sits atop the conference in goals against average with 1.29 and sits in second overall with a .948 save percentage.
Â
The Ontario product stacks up against some of the country's best, boasting the second-best save percentage and third-best GAA. With 17 goals allowed and four shutouts in his 13 appearances this season, the two-time Stop It Goaltender of the Month ranks fourth and fifth overall in the country in both statistical columns.
Â
With a 10-1-2 individual record, Savory has also led a River Hawk penalty kill unit that owns an 83.3 percentage, allowing just five goals on the extra man. Additionally, the River Hawks are one of 11 schools with no shorthanded goals allowed thanks to Savory's backstopping prowess.
Â
After the preliminary round of fan voting, the Top 10 nominees will advance through a second round of voting set for March 17-27 in hopes of being selected for the "Hobey Hat Trick", which narrows the field to its final three candidates.
Â
The Hobey Baker Memorial Award winner will then be revealed in Boston on April 8 at the 2022 Frozen Four at TD Garden.
