QUEENS, N.Y. – The UMass Lowell baseball team (0-2) faced a Saturday setback at St. John's University (2-0), falling, 11-3, to the Red Storm at Jack Kaiser Stadium.
The rematch featured much more offense than Friday's contest, as the home team was able to put forth three plus runs in three innings. St. John's opened the scoring in the bottom of the 3
rd inning, when Jake Lazzaro scored on a fielder's choice to 2
nd base. The next inning would see St. John's break the game open with a 3-run home run off the bat of David Glancy. The Red Storm would not look back, adding four more runs to seal the game.
The visitors had opportunities beginning in the 2
nd inning, as they were able to advance sophomore
Garret Roberts (Stratham, N.H.)
to second before stranding the runners. The team's first run would cross the plate in the 7
th inning courtesy of redshirt-senior
Cam Climo (Billerica, Mass.)
, who was driven in by a Roberts ground out to the pitcher.
UMass Lowell would again piece together runs in the bottom of the ninth inning, as Climo
would again cross the plate before junior
Matt DeBenedetto (North Reading, Mass.) earned his first run of the season after a
Robert Gallagher (Mullica Hill, N.J.) RBI groundout.
The teams will face off in a matinee Sunday to cap off the series on ESPN3; due to inclement weather, it was announced Saturday that the game will be pushed up to 10 a.m.
